Keep A Close Watch On Your Krystal Burger

We never really liked lettuce.  Something about its leafy greenness and earthy taste we’ve just never trusted - perhaps now we know why.

And while we never recommend leaving a Krystal burger unattended to begin with, be especially careful around large heads of lettuce.

They’re vicious - vicious, we tell you.

Consider the video below your warning.

Burger Shoe: Nike Air Max 90

Olle Hemmendorff, a Swedish illustrator and designer was recently commissioned by Nike (along with 7 other artists) to interpret their shoes.  According to Hemmendorff’s site, he “constructed a running shoe using the most powerful, most durable and most delicious material known to man: hamburger.”

Well, now we’re feeling all inspired and artsy again.  So we may take a stab at creating our own interpretive piece, using Krystal menu items of course.

So check back to see what we come up with.  In the meantime, enjoy Hemmendorff’s work below.

Facts About Food At The 2008 Beijing Olympics

With the 2008 Olympics opening today in Beijing, we thought we’d share some interesting facts about what the athletes will be chowing down on while in China.

- According to The New York Times, for the first time, a shipment of California strawberries will be allowed into China.  The Chinese had previously banned any shipment of the fruit from abroad but lifted the restriction after requests from Olympic athletes.   According to the article, “this week the state sent 450 pounds of berries, the first of 35 or so shipments”.

- China Daily is reporting that about 9,000 bananas have been consumed in the dining hall of the Olympic Village with only 15,000 athletes having officially checked in thus far.  They also estimate 4,000 liters of cooking oil has been used and they are serving up three tons of rice each day.

- According to ABCNews, many athletes are concerned about the food in China as it commonly contains antibiotics, growth stimulants or steroids, which could produce a positive doping test.  As a result, the government has established “specific Olympic food producers” who have installed computerized tracking systems.  These devices can provide a complete history of every carrot and apple, “tracking its path from the farm to the athlete’s plate.”  Many athletes however, are still reportedly brown bagging it, not willing to take a chance.

Perhaps we should ship over some Steamer Packs of Krystal burgers?

Hot Dog, Meat Hamburger

The Express Special: a hot dog on a hamburger.
The Express Special: a hot dog on a hamburger.

We saw this post over at Slashfood today and had to share. Apparently, the Brits have combined what many would argue are the best fast-food menu items and created the hot dog-hamburger.

Yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like - a hot dog sliced up on a hamburger.

This hotburger isn’t exclusive to the U.K. Vera’s Burger Shack in Vancouver, B.C. serves something called up “The Frank”, which they describe as “double cheese, double fried onions, the patty & half a Vera Dog”.

Wow.

So now we’re curious (you see where this is going right?). What if you took a Krystal Pup, sliced it up and stacked it inside a Krystal burger? You could even step it up by adding a Chili-Cheese Pup to a Krystal burger. Sounds pretty delicious, huh? Just promise you’ll send photos if any of you decide to create a Krystal Pup-Burger, as we’ll want to share with the world.

An Open Invititation To Chef Gordon Ramsay

Krystal offers to teach Chef Gordon Ramsay about real fast food. We’ve already proclaimed our unabated love for Chef Gordon Ramsey. Remember when we challenged the fast food lovin’ chef to a Krystal burger eating competition against Joey Chestnut? Still no word from Chef Ramsay on that, but it seems as though he’s taken his love for fast food to the next level with a book titled Gordon Ramsay’s Fast Food.

Apparently the meals only take 30 minutes or so to prepare from start to finish, but we don’t think Chef Ramsay’s book includes any recipes for burgers, the quintessential fast food. Instead, Chef uses ingredients such as warm blood sausage, fresh gooseberries and lamb rumps.

So we’d like to offer an open invitation to Chef Ramsay - come to Krystal’s Test Kitchen in Chattanooga where we can show you how real fast food is made.

A Chihuahua on Cheeseburgers - A Great Way to Start the Work Week

A chihuahua on cheeseburgers.
A chihuahua on cheeseburgers.

Hope everyone had a great long weekend full of fun, family, food and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Krystal Hamburger. Now it’s back to reality and back to work. But in hopes of putting a smile on your face this morning, we decided to post a photo of a chihuahua standing on cheeseburgers. Random, we know. But it made us laugh, ok?

We found the pic over at A Hamburger Today, and the photo is from a series taken by photographer William Hundley titled “w/cheeseburger”. You can see the entire collection on Flickr. We also love the longboard photo.

Now we’re feeling inspired to take our own photos, but using Krystal burgers of course.  So check back and see what random things from our our office we can stack on top of Krystal burgers. We doubt Java, our chocolate lab, will be so cooperative - she loves Krystal. So does this chihuahua.

Now get back to work.

A Perfect Way to Spend Memorial Day Weekend

What better way to spend Memorial Day weekend than enjoying Krystals on the bbq-donut?
What better way to spend Memorial Day weekend than enjoying Krystals on the bbq-donut?
We saw this amazing contraption and immediately thought about how perfect it would be for a Memorial Day weekend spent at the lake. It’s called the bbq-donut, and the technical term to describe it is a “water activity platform”, whatever that is.

Basically it’s a round raft (12 feet in diameter) that seats 10 people and carries a table, a low-smoke charcoal grill and eight storage boxes for your food and drinks, which are tucked away under the seats. There is also an on board sound system, and the raft is propelled by an electric motor.

Pretty awesome right? Just imagine grabbing some friends, some Krystal burgers and spending the weekend puttering away on the lake on your bbq-donut. Although, we think we’d have to call it something else. Bbq and donut just don’t work together.

1,000 Pound Hamburger Devoured at Burger Day Festival

According to a link on Eatfeats, the 20th-annual Fried Onion Burger Day Festival took place over the weekend in El Reno, Oklahoma. As part of the celebration, a 1,000 pound onion burger was grilled and then devoured by festival goers.

The onion burger has its roots in Oklahoma, according to this post over at A Hamburger Today, and the burger was (arguably) invented by a guy named Ross Davis. Davis began smashing onions into burgers during the depression because onions were much cheaper than meat.

And even though we like burgers, especially those with onions (although we prefer our onions steamed in), after watching the below video from the 2005 Burger Day Festival, we think we’d pass on the 1,000 pounder they’re cooking up and eat the 7, 547 Krystal burgers it would take to equal it instead. Maybe it’s the noise, or maybe it’s the size, but something about it just ain’t right.

156-Step Hamburger-Making Machine Wins Rube Goldberg Contest

Purdue University engineers win Rube Goldberg Contest with 156-step hamburger-making machine.
Purdue University engineers win Rube Goldberg Contest with 156-step hamburger-making machine.
While perusing our blog roll, we came across this fun story posted on A Hamburger Today. Apparently there is such a thing as a Rube Goldberg Machine contest.

What’s a Rube Goldberg Machine you ask?

Well, remember watching cartoons as a kid and those crazy, annoying machines that nearly every character at some point created to catch his arch nemesis? You know, the machine where a character pulls a string and a boot kicks a bowling ball which rolls through the gutters and down the downspout then hits the dominoes which are perfectly spaced to knock over a cup of water that lands on a see saw that sends a marble flying through the air where it lands in a funnel and somehow ends up dropping a safe off a cliff. It’s one of those machines.

If you need a visual example, click here - just be warned it’s a clip from Pee Wee Herman’s Big Adventure.
