A few of those signature items include: the Krystal Hamburger, Krystal Chik and Krystal Pup. When it comes to producing American Idol winners, the South clearly dominates. Indeed, a quick scan of past finalists and runner-ups from the last seven seasons reveals that more hail from Krystal Country than anywhere else. A few of these notables include Kelly Clarkson (Ft. Worth), Ruben Studdard (Birmingham, Ala.), Taylor Hicks (Birmingham, Ala.), Bo Bice (Huntsville, Ala.) and Diana DeGarmo (Snellville, Ga.). And last week, a Mississippi newspaper informed readers about another southern star on the rise.

On Feb. 12, The Commercial Dispatch told Starkville, Miss. residents about one of their own teen locals getting her chance at fame. After making it to the top 36 on season eight of American Idol, 16-year-old Jasmine Murray will fight to stay in the race this week.

While it’s too early for us to pick favorites (give us another week), we have to say Murray ranks right up there at the top for us right now. She’s incredibly talented and definitely has “the look,” and best of all she comes from one of our newest Krystal markets. In fact not only is she from where Krystal just opened a new location this past November, she was also born in Columbus, Miss., where Krystal just opened a new restaurant on Monday. So just as the local communities in both Starkville and Columbus have showed great support for Krystal, we’re here to give back by supporting Murray and her journey to stardom.

We’ll be tuning in tonight when American Idol airs at 8/7 p.m. Central on FOX and hoping Murray makes it to next round. And if you’re in Starkville or Columbus, perhaps stop by your new local Krystal tonight and see if they’ll turn FOX on the restaurant’s TV so you can cheer on your new hometown hero while enjoying your new hometown hamburger.
