The Southern Chik’n Tenders Basket: Our New Favorite Krystal Meal
Harmon Jolley recently posted a great article on Chattanoogan.com reminiscing about local chicken chains over the years, and to no surprise, at least to us, she included Krystal. Yes, while many still think of Krystal primarily as a hamburger chain, true Krystal lovers know that the fast food icon has been serving great tasting chicken products like the Krystal Chik for a number of years, and as Jolley pointed out, even going back as far as 1969.
For us, the timing of this article couldn’t be any more perfect, as just this afternoon we went to try Krystal’s latest chicken meal: The Southern Chik’n Tenders Basket, featuring three generous-sized chicken strips served on top of a heaping pile of hot French fries.
Biting into that first tender piece of chicken, the first thing we noticed was that it has a light and crispy southern-style breading, giving it a delicious homemade taste just like mom used to make. The meal is served with your choice of four, premium Ken’s Steak House dipping sauces, including sweet Cannonball Barbecue Sauce, Spicy Wing Sauce, Honey Mustard and Ranch. We asked for both the barbecue sauce and spicy wing sauce so we could create our own sweet and spicy flavor, and it proved to be the perfect complement to the Chik’n tenders. Next time, we’re thinking of trying the ranch sauce just to give us something to dip our fries in too.
In the end, this just may be the perfect Krystal meal for us, which shouldn’t surprise anyone who follows Krystalist and knows how much we love Krystal’s chicken products. Sure we’re biased but we’d put the quality and taste of Krystal’s Southern Chik’n Tenders up against any other restaurants’ chicken tenders.
