Chattanoogans – say hello to your new Krystal restaurant opening on Wednesday, July 28 at 6 a.m. in north downtown Chattanooga on 3409 Amnicola Hwy!

This state-of-the-art Krystal resembles the Krystal-3D design and features an indoor ordering area, six drive-in stalls and a drive-thru window creating multiple points of service for guests – two of which are accessible from the car.

“This location is all about convenience for our Krystal Lovers,” said Fred Exum, chief executive officer, The Krystal Company. “There are a number of new city developments in the works downtown, and we’re excited to give our guests who live and work in the area another place to satisfy their Krystal cravings.”

The restaurant will feature a fresh interior design that pays tribute to the traditional Krystal look while showcasing the company’s modern, new image. It will also be a “Krystal HotSpot” with Free Wi-Fi for guests – a perfect place to enjoy a Krystal Burger and catch up on work while away from the office.

Krystal fans will also be excited to learn that in addition to the new Amnicola Krystal, the company has future plans for additional restaurants on Broad Street, East Brainerd and the Cleveland area. Just three more reasons to love Krystal!

Krystal is excited to give Chattanoogans another location to enjoy Krystal Burgers hot off the grill!

The Krystal Company is setting its sights on growing its presence in Chattanooga and is starting with the opening of a brand new, company-owned Krystal restaurant in north downtown this summer. Situated at 3409 Amnicola Hwy, the new location will be the first Chattanooga-area opening in 10 years and joins more than 20 additional Krystal restaurants in the market. The new location marks the latest move in the company’s plans to grow its business through the development of company-owned stores in heritage markets, including a focus in the Chattanooga market.

“Chattanooga has always been an important market for The Krystal Company, both from a strategic viewpoint and historically, and you can expect to see it become even more so in the coming years,” said Fred Exum, president and chief executive officer, The Krystal Company.

In addition to the new Amnicola location, the company has future plans for additional restaurants on Broad Street, East Brainerd and the Cleveland area. These openings will coincide with two other large Chattanooga developments currently in the works including the Volkswagen plant and the Alstom turbine expansion, all of which will further commercial and population growth for the city.

“With the resurgence of development along the Riverwalk and major investments in the city like the Volkswagen plant creating thousands of new jobs, this is truly an exciting time for Chattanoogans,” said Exum. “The Krystal Company is excited and committed to being a part of this growth by extending our presence here in our hometown.”

The state-of-the-art Krystal is being built as a modular unit that will allow for a shorter construction time. The innovative restaurant concept is a blend of the Krystal-3D and the Krystal Kwik with a focus on customer convenience. It will feature an indoor ordering area, six drive-in stalls and a drive-thru window creating multiple points of service for guests – two of which are accessible from the car. Additional restaurant elements will include advanced drive-thru ordering technology, credit card and debit payment options and free Wi-Fi Internet access for guests.

The full-service Krystal located on Amnicola Hwy will be the first new build in Chattanooga since the opening of the Athens and Trenton locations in Tennessee 10 years ago. The Amnicola Krystal will bring more jobs to the community and employ approx. 30-35 people.

The Chattanooga-based, competition oriented cycling club Scenic City Velo supported its very own Team Krystal as its cyclists competed in The Georgia Cup criterium race this past Saturday on April 10, 2010. And it looks like the support paid off! Thanks to all the cheer coming from the sidelines (not to mention the great athleticism), Team Krystal member James Delong was able to come out ahead and take first place for the club. The Krystal team, made up of 300 cyclists headquartered in Chattanooga, Tenn., are the reigning Tennessee Road Bike Club of the Year as well as the Tennessee Mountain Bike Club of the Year. The members race from February to November each year and compete in several hundred different races across the southeast.

Drum roll please… The Krystal Square Off VI World Hamburger Eating Championship is finally here and will kick off in grand fashion this afternoon with the annual “Running of the Krystal Square Off Grill,” a Media Square Off featuring Chattanooga’s most recognizable news personalities and a new-rules eating exhibition by the number two-ranked eater in the world Patrick “Deep Dish” Bertoletti.

And that’s not all! The weekend festivities will continue tomorrow with the KSO VI Open Registration, where amateur hopefuls can sign up to get the chance to be one of the five people selected “on-the-spot” to compete against Bertoletti at the Chattanooga Qualifier.

Bertoletti will be joined by the following eaters in the eight-minute qualifying contest:

Humble Bob Shoudt takes Chattanooga with 58 Krystal Burgers

Humble Bob Shoudt took the Krystal Square Off Chattanooga Qualifier on Saturday, downing 58 Krystal burgers in eight minutes.

Although Shoudt was disappointed with his performance, he did earn the first seat to this year’s World Hamburger Eating Championship, which will take place back in Chattanooga on September 28.

Not to be outdone by the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, the Krystal Square Off V World Hamburger Eating Championship will host an Opening Ceremony today in downtown Chattanooga. The ceremony will start up at 1:00 pm EST with the official lighting of the Krystal Square Off Grill to signify the beginning of this year’s Krystal Square Off Qualifying Tour.

After the lighting, Chattanoogans are invited to join the first ever “Running of the Grill” down Chestnut Street, complete with a police escort, parade of vehicles with local dignitaries, the Krystal cycling team on bikes and a host of Krystal employees.

The procession will end down at the Riverfront, where Krystal’s VP of Marketing Brad Wahl and George Shea from Major League Eating will host a press conference to set the stage for this year’s competitive eating contest, and immediately afterwards, Chattanooga’s most popular news personalities will compete in a 2-minute Krystal burger eating contest.

Beginning mid-June, Krystal lovers in Chattanooga will be handed a little something extra when they order a bottle of water with their Krystal meals.

That’s right, you lucky folks will receive a packet of Crystal Light On The Go to mix in – making your water more flavorful and refreshing, just in time for summer (whew – it was all we could do to type Crystal with a “C” and not a “K”).

Flavors that will be available include: Peach Tea, Lemonade and Raspberry Ice.

We’re big fans of Crystal Light, so our summer just got a whole lot better as we’re pretty excited about washing down our Krystal Chiks with Peach Tea, our favorite flavor. Yum.

Now for more about that Krystal Drive-In, Drive-Thru and Dine-In we promised to tell you about earlier in the week. You know, the one in Chattanooga that recently earned recognition for the cool menu boards that have individual TVs integrated into them. Yeah, that one.

The modern, new Krystal Drive-In design was the brainchild of Fred Exum Jr., the company’s President and CEO, and was created as a way to serve up the ultimate Krystal experience for customers while at the same time building upon the company’s history of hospitality.

As one of the pioneers of the original drive-In concept (Krystal operated a number of drive-in units throughout the South from 1952 through the early ’60s), the new Krystal Drive-In pays homage to the company’s heritage by featuring dedicated Carhop servers who personally take orders right at your vehicle rather than you having to say your order into a speaker.

In adding a modern new twist to the location, each of the 14 parking stalls feature a large, three-panel menu and digital media board (yes, the award winning one) positioned directly in front of the parking space, making it easy for everyone in the car to view. The 32-inch LCD screens also feature individual TVs (as we told you about earlier), and to hear the programming, you simply tune your car stereo to a specified frequency.

That’s not it. Like all Krystal locations, customers have access to free Wi-Fi and at this drive-in, your car in no exception.

So yes, you can watch TV, surf the web and chow down on your favorite Krystal food items without ever stepping foot out of your car.

And just when you think it couldn’t get any better, it does. The Krystal Drive-In features an expanded menu. So in addition to Krystal burgers, Chiks, Pups, Scramblers – you know, the favorites – Krystal has added items such as a full line of real fruit smoothies, icy cold floats, ice cream sundaes and Krystal-sized toasted sandwiches for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night.

Along with the drive-in, this location features a 38-seat dining room (complete with a digital jukebox), and a traditional drive-thru.
