Coke, Soda Or Pop?

“What would you like to drink with that?”

“I’d like a Coke.”

“What kind?  We have Dr. Pepper, Sprite, Diet Coke or Coke.”

For those born and raised in Krystal Country, the above conversation may sound familiar as most of us have grown up calling any brand of soft drinks Coke.

It’s typically not until you venture above the Mason-Dixon line or into the Midwest that ordering Coke in a restaurant will warrant strange looks as Pop or Soda are the preferred names for the sugary brown drink.

For those that travel, this can be extremely confusing.  What does one call it when they’re in say California?  Or what about Chicago?  And New York?

Thankfully we found this map over at SeriousEats.com that identifies what people call soft drinks by counties across the U.S.  You’ll see that Krystal Country is dominated by red states for Coke and the North by blue states for Pop. Apparently this map was created several years ago, but we have to image it’s still extremely accurate.

For all you country music lovers (or Vegas lovers looking for a free trip) Krystal is teaming up with Dr. Pepper to give away six trips to Las Vegas for the 43rd annual Academy of Country Music Awards. As a part of the package, not only will you and a guest get to go to the ACMA’s, but you’ll also get to rub elbows with the stars at the Dr. Pepper Pre-Show Party (wonder if Axl is invited?), the New Artist Show and the ACMA post-show party.

All you have to do is visit this site before April 13 and enter the code on the bottom of your Krystal receipt.

For the first time in ACM history, fans will vote to decide who wins the coveted title of Entertainer of the Year. This year’s nominees include: Kenny Chesney (who has won the past three years), Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts, George Strait and Keith Urban.

Do you think anyone will beat Sonya Thomas's record of 46-dozen oysters in ten minutes?
