This is why we love our great nation – there’s an official day or month dedicated to almost every different American food favorite. Just as National Hamburger Month ends, National Donut Day begins.

How it works:

The Krystal Team will be broadcasting live from the Krystal “3D” (Drive-In, Dine-In, Drive-Thru) restaurant in Chattanooga, where we will be asking the online audience (you) to answer trivia questions and complete challenges. There will be more than $1,500 in prizes, including $100 Krystal Gift Cards and loads of Krystal goodies.

Here’s what you need to know to participate:

1. Visit www.nationalhamburgermonth.com/viewer on May 27. Do not go there early or else you’ll get zapped by a 10,000 volt electrode. Okay, not really but there’s no reason to visit the page until the event begins at 10:00 a.m. EST on May 27. That’s this coming Wednesday.
2. Once there, click the “Play” arrow on the video to begin the broadcast. The live feed begins at 10:00 a.m. (you knew that already, didn’t you?) and will continue until 4:00 pm EST. You can come and go whenever you like.
3. Listen and watch for questions and challenges throughout the broadcast. If you cannot tune in, all questions and challenges will be asked in real time via Facebook, Twitter and by the official Krystal carrier pigeon*.
4. Be sure to listen for instructions on how to answer a particular question or complete a challenge. Some questions/challenges may require you to post a comment or photo on the Krystal Facebook wall. Others may require you to answer via Twitter. So you’re ready to go on the big day make sure you’re a fan of ours on Facebook AND following @Krystalist on Twitter. Go ahead and do so now. When? Now.
5. This is important so be sure to read what we are about to say. All answers via Twitter must  begin with @krystalist and must include #KrystalHD at the end of the answer. That last thing is called a hashtag but don’t ask us explain what that is. We’ll let these people do that for us.
6. Chat all you want in the chat box below the video. That’s a fun way to interact with other people and whoever is on camera. Just don’t answer questions there. That you’ll do either on Facebook or Twitter.

If you watched the news yesterday, then you probably saw President Obama and Vice President Biden’s burger run to Ray’s Hell Burger in Arlington, Va. You may have also even seen this article on LunchBoxBunch.com looking back on a long history of Presidential Burger Runs. However, we noticed that they left out our favorite Presidential burger story of all time: President Reagan’s Krystal Feast on Air Force One.

On May 18, 1987, President Reagan stopped in Chattanooga, Tenn. for a speaking engagement at a few local schools in the area. Before leaving Krystal country, Reagan requested to have Krystals delivered directly to his plane for him and his staff to enjoy. Reagan shared this feast of Krystals with former Chief of Staff Howard Baker and Labor Secretary Bill Brock, both of whom are originally from Tennessee. I guess what they say is true, “Once a Krystal Lover, always a Krystal Lover.”

And can we also point out, what perfect timing considering that both of these stories took place during National Hamburger Month in May. Coincidence? Maybe. The fact that Obama ordered his burger “Krystal style” with mustard and cheese – no coincidence there. We’re convinced he was secretly hoping that there was a Krystal restaurant located in the Arlington area. Maybe next time.

After more than a year of sharing with Krystal Lovers on Facebook, we’ve come across some of the best Krystal photos, stories, and trivia known to the fast food chain. And because of National Hamburger Month this May, we’re discovering even more interesting tidbits from guests as they join Krystal’s celebration of America’s favorite sandwich. Introducing the one and only “Cheese Krystal Portrait.”

Krystal Lover Hilton Keith of Atlanta, Ga. doesn’t just take pleasure in eating Cheese Krystals, but likes to paint them as well. We’re just glad she shared her Cheese Krystal masterpiece with The Official Krystal Lover Community on Facebook so that other guests and painters alike could also enjoy the artwork.

We are actually thinking of having it enlarged and framed for the office – there’s a perfect spot right next to our intern who does the weekly Krystal food run! That should be a good reminder come lunch time.
