Usually when we think of Krystal stuffing we think of competitive eaters like Joey Chestnut stuffing themselves with the famous Krystal hamburger at the Krystal Square Off. But for a growing number of Krystal lovers, Krystal stuffing is what they’ll be enjoying with their turkey dinner this Thanksgiving.
While we’re not sure when this phenomenon began, a lot of credit goes to Jason Jennette, one of our Krystal Lovers Hall of Fame members whose Thanksgiving Krystal Stuffing recipe has been published in a number of publications. In fact we just saw it in the most recent issue of Chatter Magazine in Chattanooga.
Jennette earned his way into the Hall of Fame in 2006 with his story about celebrating “Krystal Day” every Thursday for the past 18-plus years with a meal at his favorite restaurant. Since Krystal is closed on Thanksgiving (a Thursday), he buys Krystals on Wednesday night and uses them to make a Krystal Stuffing for his family’s Thanksgiving turkey.
Here’s Jason Jennette’s Famous Thanksgiving Krystal Stuffing recipe:
10 Krystals, no mustard, no pickles
1 ¼ tsp ground thyme
1 ½ tsp ground sage
¾ tsp ground black pepper
3 boiled eggs, chopped
1 ½ cup celery, diced
2 Tbsp margarine or butter
1 ¼ cup chicken broth
• Tear Krystals into pieces and place in a large mixing bowl.
• Add spices and eggs to the Krystal pieces and stir.
• Melt margarine or butter in a saucepan and sauté the celery over
medium-high heat until tender (about 5-10 minutes).
• Add celery mixture to the Krystals and stir.
• Add chicken broth one quarter cup at a time, stirring between each
addition.
• Add more broth as necessary to get the desired consistency.
• Place in a suitable size baking dish.
• Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes.

And apparently Jennette’s not the only one who stuffs his turkey with Krystals. We’re seeing more and more Krystal stuffing recipes popping up online, and just yesterday we saw a Krystal Turkey Stuffing recipe in the Commercial Appeal in Memphis submitted by one of its readers. Check it out online here (scroll down midway).
When you think about it, it all makes sense if you’re a Krystal lover. A Krystal hamburger features the primary ingredients that make up a delicious stuffing; that is, tasty breading in the form of a soft, fresh Krystal bun, and a flavorful meat in the form of a 100% pure ground beef Krystal with its delicious steamed-in onion flavor. Yum, is it Thanksgiving yet?
So try one of the recipes above this Thanksgiving or get creative and come up with your own recipe. If you do, let us know and even snap a photo or two so we can share with our readers here.
