Krystal will be handing out free coffee and hot chocolate from the Crave Cruiser to all Grateful Gobbler Walkers!

Calling all Chattanoogans: Get in the spirit of giving this season with Krystal!

This year, Krystal is teaming up with Chattanooga’s annual Thanksgiving Day three-mile walk, the Grateful Gobbler, to raise funds for the Chattanooga Homeless Coalition. Now in its 10th year, the Grateful Gobbler is a time-honored Chattanooga tradition and has drawn in more than 15,000 walkers and runners and has raised more than $285,000 to date.

To help support these dedicated participants, Krystal’s famed Crave Cruiser, a 45-foot big rig, “Krystal kitchen on wheels,” will be set up with a street team on hand to give out complimentary coffee and hot chocolate to everyone who walks for the cause.

As an additional way to say thanks and to help encourage participation, the first 60 guests to show up to the Crave Cruiser will win free Krystal t-shirts. Krystal will also be giving away $5 gift cards to the first ten Facebook fans and/ or Twitter followers, provided they participate in the walk. Finally, all race participants will be entered for the chance to win a $100 Krystal gift card.

So, please join Krystal this Thanksgiving holiday and come out to support this worthy cause. And, be sure to post all your event photos on Facebook and/or Flickr. We’ll even feature the best on Krystal.com! For more information about The Grateful Gobbler Walk and to register, please visit Gratefulgobbler.org.

Thought You Stuffed Yourself This Past Thanksgiving?

Take a look at the video below of competitive eating greats Joey Chestnut, Sonya Thomas, Eric “Badlands” Booker and more chowing down at Artie’s Deli’s annual turkey-eating contest in 2005 in New York City.

At only 100 pounds, Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas beat out seven men for the title. Now that’s some stuffing!

Of course, we prefer watching these expert eaters compete at the Krystal Square Off World Hamburger Eating Championship, but on Thanksgiving – turkey trumps beef.

I wonder what these guys will eat for Christmas…

Black Friday Shopping Tips from Krystal

Black Friday – Friend or Foe?  We say friend. Embrace Black Friday this year and help stimulate the economy.  And while you’re at it – grab a bite to eat from Krystal for some much needed fuel for the day that won’t break the bank. You’ll burn those calories off in no time! See some of our shopping and eating tips below…

  • If you really want to avoid the lines and stay in your pajamas, shop on the Internet.  Many of the retailers have the same sales online as they do in stores, so take advantage of the great deals in the comfort of your own home.
  • Make a plan, take a list and only visit the stores you need to hit.  Check out the ads early, as some of the discounts are time-sensitive and change according to the time of day you shop.  Having a strategic shopping timeline will get you from point A to point B much quicker.  To check out the best deals, visit Black Friday’s official site, http://bfads.net/
  • Research the goods you are planning to buy beforehand.  There’s nothing worse than pushing through the crowds to find a product that wasn’t what you thought it would be.   Read user and product reviews at www.about.com or www.consumerreports.org.
  • Dress comfortably.  What’s worse than standing in a long line? Being uncomfortable while waiting.  Wear good walking shoes and layer clothing so you can add pieces and take them off easily, especially if you’re planning to try things on in a fitting room.
  • With all the hustle and bustle, you’ll be burning some major calories.  Stay hydrated with a tasty MilkQuake beverage from Krystal and prevent low blood-sugar levels by breaking for a mid-day Krystal snack.  A Spicy Southern Chik basket with Fiesta Waffle Fries will keep you and your shopping buddies satisfied.  Plus you’ll be able to avoid congested food courts, which is always a bonus.
  • Finally, choose the right shopping partner and try to have some fun!  We suggest leaving the kids at home and breaking from your significant other.  Those holiday-spirited friends that love the extended Christmas season usually make the best shopping buddies.

Gobble Up Some Krystal Stuffing With Your Turkey This Thanksgiving

Usually when we think of Krystal stuffing we think of competitive eaters like Joey Chestnut stuffing themselves with the famous Krystal hamburger at the Krystal Square Off. But for a growing number of Krystal lovers, Krystal stuffing is what they’ll be enjoying  with their turkey dinner this Thanksgiving.

While we’re not sure when this phenomenon began, a lot of credit goes to Jason Jennette, one of our Krystal Lovers Hall of Fame members whose Thanksgiving Krystal Stuffing recipe has been published in a number of publications. In fact we just saw it in the most recent issue of Chatter Magazine in Chattanooga.

Jennette earned his way into the Hall of Fame in 2006 with his story about celebrating “Krystal Day” every Thursday for the past 18-plus years with a meal at his favorite restaurant. Since Krystal is closed on Thanksgiving (a Thursday), he buys Krystals on Wednesday night and uses them to make a Krystal Stuffing for his family’s Thanksgiving turkey.

Here’s Jason Jennette’s Famous Thanksgiving Krystal Stuffing recipe:

10 Krystals, no mustard, no pickles
1 ¼ tsp ground thyme
1 ½  tsp ground sage
¾ tsp ground black pepper
3 boiled eggs, chopped
1 ½ cup celery, diced
2 Tbsp margarine or butter
1 ¼ cup chicken broth

• Tear Krystals into pieces and place in a large mixing bowl.
• Add spices and eggs to the Krystal pieces and stir.
• Melt margarine or butter in a saucepan and sauté the celery over
medium-high heat until tender (about 5-10 minutes).
• Add celery mixture to the Krystals and stir.
• Add chicken broth one quarter cup at a time, stirring between each
addition.
• Add more broth as necessary to get the desired consistency.
• Place in a suitable size baking dish.
• Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes.

© 2006 Jason Jennette

And apparently Jennette’s not the only one who stuffs his turkey with Krystals. We’re seeing more and more Krystal stuffing recipes popping up online, and just yesterday we saw a Krystal Turkey Stuffing recipe in the Commercial Appeal in Memphis submitted by one of its readers. Check it out online here (scroll down midway).

When you think about it, it all makes sense if you’re a Krystal lover. A Krystal hamburger features the primary ingredients that make up a delicious stuffing; that is, tasty breading in the form of a soft, fresh Krystal bun, and a flavorful meat in the form of a 100% pure ground beef Krystal with its delicious steamed-in onion flavor. Yum, is it Thanksgiving yet?

So try one of the recipes above this Thanksgiving or get creative and come up with your own recipe. If you do, let us know and even snap a photo or two so we can share with our readers here.
