Joey “Jaws” Chestnut Still Ranked Number One on Eater’s Poll

Thanks to our good friend and Krystal Square Off competitive eater Hall “Hoover” Hunt for the May edition of the Eater’s Poll. As we mentioned in a previous post, the Eater’s Poll rankings are determined by a group of competitive eaters and media that cover the sport. They basically vote to determine who they think make up the Top 25 in Major League Eating.

There aren’t really any surprises with the rankings as you can see from the top five, which we’ve listed below. It’s always good however, to see our Krystal competitive eaters remain on the top.

For the complete poll rankings, visit Hunt’s blog.

1. Joey “Jaws” Chestnut

2. Patrick “Deep Dish” Bertoletti

3. Takeru “The Tsunami” Kobayashi

4. “Humble” Bob Shoudt

5. Tim “Eater-X” Janus

Below is a video of Chestnut breaking the record for the most Krystal burgers eaten in two minutes. Just in case you needed a reminder as to why he’s ranked number one.

ESPN’S Mike Golic Goes Head to Head Against Competitive Eaters

Mike Golic of ESPN’s Mike and Mike in the Morning battled “Pretty Boy” Pete Davekos, Tim “Eater X” Janus and Crazy Legs Conti in a buffalo wing eating competition this morning live on-air. As we reported earlier, Golic had to compete against the eating pros after losing the 2008 NCAA bracket wager against co-host Mike Greenberg.

This morning’s three-minute competition was called “The Feast on the First”, and even though Golic held his own, he came in last with 15 wings. The rest of the results are below along with two videos. The first video is of the actual competition while the second is of the trophy presentation.

Much love to “Eater X” for rocking the Krystal beanie. We had no idea he’d be sporting his Krystal Square Off gear. Perhaps it’s his good luck hat? If so, it sure worked this morning.

MIKE AND MIKE IN THE MORNING’S “FEAST ON THE FIRST” RESULTS:

4th place - Mike Golic with 15 wings
3rd place - “Pretty Boy” Pete Davekos with 22 wings
2nd place - Crazy Legs Conti with 23 wings
1st place - Tim “Eater X” Janus with 31 wings

ESPN’s Mike Golic May Eat Krystals In Competitive Eating Challenge

Thanks to Eatfeats.com, we just learned that Mike Golic of ESPN’s Mike and Mike in the Morning will go head to head against competitive eaters live on-air, and Krystal hamburgers may be the food of choice. Apparently Golic lost the 2008 NCAA bracket wager against co-host Mike Greenberg, and as a result, Golic will have to compete against some of the world’s best competitive eaters. Click here for more history on their bracket wagers.

Yesterday, Krystal Square Off competitive eater Crazy Legs Conti was on the show and suggested Golic consume Krystal burgers during the challenge. Greenberg asked Crazy Legs to serve as a commentator for the event, and fellow competitive eaters Tim “Eater X ” Janus and Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas were named as some of the possible competitors.

Check out the video clip below of Crazy Legs on the show, and check back soon as we’ll post more information about Golic’s upcoming (possibly Krystal) competitive eating challenge.

Get ready competitive eating fans, soon you won’t have to throw down 50+ Krystal hamburgers in order to compete against gustatory greats like Joey Chestnut, Takeru Kobayashi, Tim “Eater X” Janus and El Toro. That’s right, beginning May 12, you’ll be able to go head to head against the world’s greatest eaters thanks to ‘Major League Eating: The Game’ for Wii.

Like all Wii games, the remote will be used extensively to simulate various eating techniques including the cram, toss and ‘typewriter’ and will ultimately play like a fighting game, requiring players to “master a smorgasbord of offensive and defensive weapons including bites, burps, belches, mustard gas and jalapeno flames while cramming and chewing food at a world-class pace.”

‘Major League Eating: The Game’ will debut exclusively on WiiWare, Nintendo’s upcoming downloadable game service for Wii. The game can be played with one or two players, includes features such as online play and leaderboards and is officially sanctioned by Major League Eating, the sports franchise that oversees all professional competitive eating events including our own Krystal Square Off.
